Rebel Rock Racing has released a feature-length documentary chronicling its up-and-down 2019 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season.
Titled “Rookie Season,” the film, directed by Adrian Bonvento, follows team owner Frank DePew’s first full season in Pilot Challenge competition with its Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R co-driven by Robin Liddell.
The 2019 season delivered highs and lows for the team, including Liddell’s memorable drive to victory in the rain-soaked Road America round.
Available on Vimeo on Demand, the film is priced at $3.99 to rent for a 24-hour period.
“I think the fact that we gave Adrian full access, and the fact that he could place cameras anywhere that IMSA would allow, and that he could record our radio communications and have microphones pretty much everywhere was amazing and it means the final footage is the real deal!” said DePew.
“Adrian probably has thousands of hours of footage. And the way that he’s managed to put the film together to create such a compelling story arc is remarkable.
“He has done an amazing job. When you add in his audio and music to those visuals, I don’t fully understand how he did it but it’s really something.”
“We had to accept, to a degree, that it was going to be a warts and all fly-on-the-wall production,” said Liddell, in conversation with John Hindhaugh on Radio Show Limited’s ‘Midweek Motorsport’ Radio Show.
“One of Adrian’s key requirements was that he really wanted to have ‘access-all areas’. And the thing about Frank and myself was that we both bought into it from the beginning.
“Adrian first approached me at the Roar Before the 24 test in January of 2019.
“I thought it would be not only a great way to capture and preserve our season for posterity but also it would represent a great opportunity for the team commercially, because if the film is successful, clearly would have some kickback in that regard.”
