Victor Franzoni has escaped serious injury following his massive accident in the closing stages of Sunday’s Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The 23-year-old Brazilian lost control of his Juncos Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R heading into the high-speed Turn 2 section, where he made side contact with the barriers at more than 140 mph.
Franzoni’s car ended up on its side, surrounded by tires, prior to safety workers arriving on the scene.
While having been transported to a local hospital for evaluation, the team tweeted Sunday evening that he has been “cleared” from any serious injuries.
“Today the only thing I can do [is] thank God, AMR, Bell, Dallara and Cadillac. You guys saved my life,” Franzoni wrote on his Instagram page.
“Nothing broke, but just a lot of pain everywhere. [I’m] alive and this is the most important.”
The cause of Franzoni’s accident is unclear at this moment.
