Lamborghini announced Monday that Giorgio Sanna, the manufacturer’s lead test and development driver, has been appointed as its Head of Motorsport.
The 39-year-old Italian will be tasked with running the European, U.S. and Asia Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships, the newly announced Huracan GT3 program, as well as the Esperienza and Accademia driving courses.
Sanna began working for Lamborghini in 2001 as a test driver, having also contributed to the development of production models such as the Murcielago and Huracan.
In addition to his duties with the manufacturer, Sanna has also competed in numerous sports car racing series, including the Italian GT Championship, Italian Superstars and GT3 championships, as well as select one-off races around the world. He won the 2011 Italian GT championship.
