Inter Europol Competition has adjusted its driver lineup for the 1000 Miles of Sebring after Alex Brundle tested positive for COVID-19.

Former United Autosports driver Fabio Scherer has been drafted into the No. 34 Oreca 07 Gibson for the FIA World Endurance Championship season-opener.

Scherer will team up with Brundle’s full-time co-drivers Esteban Gutierrez and Jakub Smiechowski.

The Swiss racer is due to pull double-duty in Florida this weekend as he is already confirmed to drive for High Class Racing in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

“We are very sorry for Alex,” said Inter Europol team principal Sascha Fassbender.

“He felt unwell yesterday and to make sure, he took a test and it was positive. We will miss his input and his speed. Hope he feels better quickly.

“But as luck wants it, Fabio Scherer, who joins us in the ELMS in the LMP2, will now do double duty this weekend as was in Sebring anyway.”
