Timo Bernhard will test Falken’s Porsche 911 GT3 R ahead of this weekend’s VLN race as part of the team’s ongoing Nürburgring 24 preparation.
The German has five N24 wins to his name, tying him for a record with Pedro Lamy and Marcel Tiemann.
Falken will only run its BMW M6 GT3 in this weekend’s VLN race, the second round of the season, due to its regular Porsche drivers having clashing commitments in a busy weekend of sports car racing.
However, Bernhard will turn some laps in the Porsche on Friday to further progress its N24 preparation.
“We always planned to race the BMW this weekend but the opportunity came up to get Timo in the car to work through the preparations we need to do before the N24,” said Falken motorsport coordinator Stefanie Olbertz.
“With revised suspension, different tyre sizes and aero package, the 2019 911 differs considerably from the GT3 R we have been running.
“Getting more experience of running the new car, plus the chance to have Timo’s feedback was a worthwhile addition to our test programme. We’d like to thank Porsche for making him available to us.”
Saturday’s VLN race will get underway at 12 p.m. local time and is scheduled to last the usual length of four hours.
The first race of the season was shortened due to a weather delay.
