GMG Racing is set to embrace SRO America’s new ‘customer focused’ model that will see the longtime series entrant field 11 cars and 13 drivers across GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, Pirelli GT4 America and GT Sports Club America championships this year.
The California-based team is gearing up for one of its busiest years yet, with GT2, GT3 and GT4-spec Porsches, as well as multiple Audi R8 LMS GT4 cars under its tent this year following a significant off-season expansion.
Team owner James Sofronas and Jeroen Bleekemolen will share driving duties of a Porsche 911 GT3 R in this weekend’s season-opening GTWC America round at Circuit of The Americas, while Jason Bell is set to tackle three different SRO America series this year, all in Porsche machinery.
Bell is confirmed for both GT4 Sprint and SprintX competition in Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsports and will be joined by Andrew Davis for the SprintX races.
The third-year GMG driver is also set to be part of the team’s expansive GT Sports Club program, which will see no fewer than four Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsports fielded in the new-for-2020 series when it kicks off at Virginia International Raceway in June.
Stu Frederick, Mike LaFever and Stephen Lawler as so far confirmed for the single-driver 40-minute sprint races, which will be open to GT2 and previous-gen GT3 machinery.
Additional GT4 America entries, meanwhile, will come from Alex Welch and Michael McGrath, who will co-drive an Audi GT4 in selected SprintX rounds alongside Elias Sabo and Andy Lee in a second Audi for this weekend’s season-opener.
A third Audi, meanwhile, will be fielded for the Long Beach SprintX round for CJ Moses and Ryan Dalziel, with Sofronas set to join Welch behind the wheel for the event as well, with Mark Crigler in a to-be-announced schedule.

“Having Jason Bell back is a great testament to the relationship we’ve forged over the years, and he’ll be enjoying an unprecedented amount of seat time with all of the campaigns he’s running.
“Alex Welch is back in our fold which is very exciting given our decade-long history, and another veteran of the team in Elias Sabo really shows the value of our program to returning drivers.
“Additionally, categories like the new GTSC allow us to welcome new drivers like Stu Frederick, Mike LaFever, and Stephen Lawler, and additionally we welcome Mark Crigler and the return of CJ Moses to our GT4 efforts.
“It’s a busy year but one that wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous supporting crew we have here, and we’re still open to even more programs.”
