After initially being left off the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge schedule, the Detroit races at Belle Isle Park have made its way back on after all, the series announced Monday.

Detroit will be an added round for the GT and GT-A classes on the weekend of May 29-31, with another two races for both classes. This will air as a live 90-minute TV broadcast on the series’ to-be-announced new TV partner.

Previous to Monday’s announcement, World Challenge President/CEO Scott Bove had cited space limitations of the track as a reason for being unable to make the race work for 2015. But renewed negotiations have followed to make the event happen.

“We had been working with the DGP staff for several months to sort through some issues that were important to the series,” Bove said. “We released what was to be the final schedule a few weeks back.

“The response from our fans, teams, drivers and marketing partners has been overwhelming in support of us continuing the negotiations with the track. Those discussions were rekindled, and over the past two weeks we have mutually agreed to add the DGP to our schedule.”

The Detroit races fall two weeks after the full complement of classes race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario (May 15-17) and a month before the next all-class race at Road America (June 26-28).

The Detroit weekend will now have more content across the board than originally planned.

The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship announced last week that its Prototype Challenge class would be racing alongside the Prototype and GT Daytona classes for the first time, and this doubleheader for PWC GT/GT-A will now make for more racing over the course of the weekend.
