The iconic silver and red Flying Lizard livery will return to a Porsche in top-level GT racing next month, with the Sonoma, Calif.-based team set to field a GTA class entry in selected Pirelli World Challenge rounds this year.

Flying Lizard Motorsports program manager Darren Law confirmed to Sportscar365 that the team will enter a new Porsche 911 GT3 R for gentleman driver Andy Wilzoch for the Road America, Sonoma and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca events.

It will mark the team’s first Porsche entry in a pro racing series since its championship-winning American Le Mans Series GTC effort in 2013, as well as its first standalone PWC program since joining forces with K-PAX Racing last year.

“Andy ran with us all of last year in club racing with an older [Porsche 911 GT3] RSR. He stepped up and bought a new car,” Law told Sportscar365.

“We got it this year and we’ve been doing PCA [Porsche Club of America] racing and a bunch of testing to get him up to speed.

“We’re excited to run him. It should be fun. Right now this will be his first step into [pro racing].”

Law said the entry for the three events with the Porsche 991-based GT3 contender could expand into a full-season effort in PWC next year, as the team looks to showcase the Flying Lizard brand on a regular basis.

“Obviously us running K-PAX is our main focus but we would love to have a full Lizard effort at some point as well. Whether it’s PWC, IMSA or whatever,” he said.

Two of the Lizard’s Audi R8 LMS cars are up for sale, with its third chassis remaining with the team for testing and development purposes with tire partner Toyo.
