The fire-breathing GT1 cars of the previous decade have returned to the SRO paddock, with Stephane Ratel outlining plans for revival meetings as part of its Blancpain Ultracar Sports Club. (En Français)
A Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT and Ferrari 550 Maranello adorn the entrance of the Paul Ricard paddock, site of this weekend’s Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup round, as a precursor to the proposed GT1 Sports Club.
Contrary to the Blancpain Revival Series in 2012, which had actual races, Ratel said the concept would be to have the GT1 cars turn laps within the Blancpain Ultracar Sports Club sessions over Blancpain GT race weekends.
As a result, the Ferrari 550 Maranello, Corvette C6.R, Saleen S7-R, Aston Martin DBR9, Nissan GT-R, Maserati MC12 and the Matech-built Ford GT and many others will be able to take on a second life within the SRO paddock.
Further details on the GT1 Sports Club have yet to be announced.
The Blancpain Ultracar Sports Club features cars such as the McLaren P1 GTR, Pagani Zonda R and the very rare Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion this weekend in France.
