Michelin will continue as the exclusive tire supplier in the Asian Le Mans Series, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest confirmed Wednesday.
The French tire manufacturer will enter its third consecutive season supplying tires in the championship, which is now run under new management for the upcoming 2015/2016 winter season.
“The Asian LMS is a great way to promote Asia Pacific motorsports outside Asia,” said Michelin Asia-Pacific Motorsports Director Patrick Dias.
“The 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans is a good example where drivers who raced in the Asian LMS managed to achieve excellent results, for example winning the LMP2 category.
“With a new championship format over two calendar years (2015-2016), the Asian LMS will establish an even more significant role within the Asian motorsports scene.”
Added Asian LMS Operations Manager Cyrille Taesch Wahlen: “This partnership is a nice show of trust from Michelin as well as a strong message in the year the ACO recovers the series.
“It is a major asset for the Asian LMS to be able to count on the Michelin experience and records in endurance racing especially after their victory in the Le Mans 24H.”
The 2015/2016 season kicks off at Fuji Speedway, as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship weekend on Oct. 10-11.
