Between a new partnership that kicks off this weekend as well as a possibility of retaining its existing season-long program, Delta-ADR is set to continue in the FIA World Endurance Championship as a two-car operation in 2014.
Team manager Simon Dowson (pictured) confirmed to Sportscar365 plans to remain in the series with a pair of LMP2 cars, with the first car already confirmed through a new partnership with Millennium Development fund.
The deal with the UAE-based firm was brokered by Gulf Racing Middle East team principal Fabien Giroix, who has joined the British squad’s No. 25 entry for Saturday’s season-ending Six Hours of Bahrain with co-drivers Craig Dolby and Robbie Kerr.
“For us, this is the start of next year’s program, really,” Dowson told Sportscar365. “It’s why we made the switch of how we were running until now. The Millennium Development fund have come on board as a partner to the team. We’ll look to take forward one, potentially two cars, into next year’s series.”
With four class wins out of seven races, Delta-ADR has been one of the teams to beat in LMP2 all season, particularly with its G-Drive-sponsored No. 26 entry of John Martin, Mike Conway and Romain Rusinov, who sit third in the driver points standings and still with a mathematical chance of the championship.
However, with the potential of the Millennium effort becoming a two-car operation and the Russian-backed G-Drive organization reportedly in discussions with other LMP2 teams to run their program next year, the makeup of Delta-ADR’s second entry still remains unclear.
“We want to keep working with Roman,” Dowson said. “G-Drive have been a really good partner. We want to find a way to make the two mix. At the moment they both want to run one car but there’s the potential that they [each] want two cars. If we can try to make that fit together, then that’s better for everybody.”
