Porsche-contracted driver Laurin Heinrich will rejoin Wright Motorsports for next month’s Indianapolis 8 Hour presented by AWS in the team’s bid for overall honors in the Intercontinental GT Challenge and GT World Challenge America powered by AWS season finale.
The Ohio-based squad, which claimed the GTWC America Pro class drivers’ championship last year with Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer, missed out on the outright win in the race after their No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R was served with a five-second post-race penalty for a late-race pit stop infringement.
Heinrich took the checkered flag in the eight-hour enduro in first but was demoted to second overall, behind the No. 31 Team WRT of Dries Vanthoor, Sheldon van der Linde and eventual IGTC champion Charles Weerts.
While not having competed in GTWC America competition in the Pro class since, Adelson, who has since taken over ownership of the team, said they’re looking for redemption this time around with its retained driver lineup from last year.
“SRO is a great championship,” Adelson told Sportscar365. “They do a really good job of managing the performance of all the cars.
“I love racing at Indy. I always say this spot is a racer’s playground. It’s very flat and not a lot of aero corners but that makes the racing really, really great.
“The penalty we got left a little bit of a bad taste in our mouths and we know what we can do with a Porsche around this track, so we wanted to come back and do it again.”
The No. 120 entry will be fielded alongside a customer No. 10 Porsche spearheaded by Antares Au, who is currently tied for the lead of the IGTC Independent Cup with Herberth Motorsport’s Ralf Bohn following the Hong Kong driver’s Bronze class victory in the Suzuka 1000km.
A three-way battle for the most successful Bronze-rated driver in the globe-trotting GT3 series is set for the season finale on Oct. 18, with 75 Express owner/driver Kenny Habul sitting third, only six points behind in the standings.
