Lynn Closing In on Final G-Drive Seat

Alex Lynn is closing in on a deal to join G-Drive Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, which could add to the Brit’s already busy year ahead.

The 23-year-old GP2 ace joined the TDS Racing-run team at Motorland Aragon last week for a multi-day Dunlop tire test alongside the already confirmed Roman Rusinov and Pierre Thiriet in the team’s Oreca 07 Gibson.

Lynn, who took part in the final three WEC races last season with Manor, told Sportscar365 last month he was chasing a GTE-Pro drive, rumored to be Aston Martin, but it’s understood to have fallen through at the last minute.

“I’m pretty hopeful of my own WEC deal,” Lynn wrote on his blog. “I’m currently in Aragon testing with G-Drive Racing in their Oreca LMP2 car.

“If this comes off, I’ll be starting this at Silverstone in April and doing a full season including the Le Mans 24 Hours – that’s something you dream of as a professional driver.”

It’s understood a number of drivers had been in the frame for the G-Drive WEC seat, including ex-Formula One pilots Vitaly Petrov, Will Stevens and Pastor Maldonado, with Lynn emerging as the most recent favorite.

A full WEC ride for Lynn would add to an already busy schedule for the rising star, which includes the Twelve Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans with Wayne Taylor Racing, Nürburgring 24 with BMW and reserve driver duties for DS Virgin Racing in Formula E.

He would likely miss the Nürburgring WEC round in July, as Lynn is already confirmed to step into either Sam Bird or Jose Maria Lopez’s seat in Formula E, which races in New York City the same weekend.
