Zandvoort to Replace Baku as Final Round

Zandvoort to host final round of the Blancpain Sprint Series…

SRO Motorsports Group has confirmed this year’s Blancpain Sprint Series season finale will take place at Zandvoort instead of Baku.

The Baku World Challenge was set to take pace on Oct. 24-25, but the Azerbaijani organizers informed SRO they will be unable to stage the event due to economic reasons.

Circuit Park Zandvoort came to the rescue, having previously hosted the FIA GT Series in 2011 and 2013, as well as the Blancpain Sprint Series last season.

The final round of the season at Zandvoort will now take place on Oct. 10-11, a decision that received the unanimous agreement of all the teams.

“Even though the announcement came as a surprise, with the third edition of the Baku World Challenge having been confirmed as part of a three-year agreement, SRO Motorsports Group would like to thank the promoter, International Concept Event, Aztexnika, Mr Ahad and all who have been involved in the two previous editions,” said Stephane Ratel.

“They were two fantastic events which greatly contributed to the global growth of GT Racing. I am also happy that we have found a fitting alternative by organizing the final round of the 2015 Blancpain GT Series on the challenging Zandvoort circuit.”

“We are obviously very happy to have an opportunity to host the Blancpain GT Series season finale in Zandvoort and to continue our long-term collaboration with the SRO Motorsports Group,” added Erik Weijers, COO Circuit Park Zandvoort.

“We are sure the weekend will bring a fitting conclusion to what already is an exciting season.”
