Dalziel Wins 2015 Porsche Cup

Ryan Dalziel was awarded the Porsche Cup, as Porsche’s top privateer driver in the 2015 international sports car racing season, during Saturday night’s Porsche Night of Champions event in Weissach.

Dalziel, who won twice and finished third in the Pirelli World Challenge championship driving with EFFORT Racing, edged out a pair of Proton Racing FIA WEC drivers, Klaus Bachler and Marco Seefried, for the honor.

It saw the Florida-based Scot not only get awarded the coveted trophy from Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Porsche AG, but also a 400 horsepower Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet.

“I’m a huge Porsche fan. When I first started making money [in racing], the first thing I did was bought a car I couldn’t afford, which was a 997 GT3,” Dalziel said during the ceremony.

“I have to give all credit to the team I drove for, EFFORT Racing. Chuck [Toups, team principal], Erin [Gahagan, team manger] and Stefan [Pfeiffer, technical director] are here and we have a great team back at home. It’s an honor to be part of the family.”

The Porsche Cup has been awarded since 1970, and is based on an idea of Ferry Porsche. The origins of the Porsche Cup actually were the root to the full Night of Champions evening event.

Dalziel’s 2016 season will feature a dual-pronged effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with Visit Florida Racing, and in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Tequila Patron ESM.
