Muscle Milk Pickett Racing led the way in a rain-soaked opening practice at Road Atlanta, as American Le Mans Series teams prepare for Saturday’s series-ending Petit Le Mans.

Lucas Luhr peddled the No. 6 HPD ARX-03c to a best lap of 1:26.407 in the one-hour session, which was interrupted three times for incidents.

Luhr edged out the No. 0 DeltaWing of Andy Meyrick by 2.124 seconds, which was second overall on the time sheets.

The No. 3 Corvette C6.R of Jan Magnussen was third overall and quickest in GT with a 1:29.499, ahead of the sister No. 4 Corvette entry driven by Tommy Milner.

Tristan Nunez led the way in the PC ranks aboard his Performance Tech Oreca FLM09, while the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche of Spencer Pumpelly paced GTC.

No P2 cars took part in the session.

The session was first red-flagged for the No. 05 CORE autosport entry of Jon Bennett, who went off course in Turn 10a. Both Nunez and the No. 44 Flying Lizard entry of Dion von Moltke also hit trouble in the corner less than 10 minutes later.

The third, and most serious incident came with 20 minutes to go in the session when Stefan Johansson slammed his No. 8 BAR1 Motorsports PC into the wall at the Esses. The Swede was evaluated and released from the infield medical center.

The second practice session of the day is on tap for 2:45 p.m. EDT.
