Multimatic, RS1 Take CTSC Wins, Titles at Road Atlanta

Multimatic Motorsports’ Billy Johnson and Scott Maxwell have been crowned GS champions following their overall victory in Friday’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season finale at Road Atlanta.

Spencer Pumpelly and Nick Galante, of RS1, meanwhile, claimed the race win and title in ST, following late-race misfortune for the championship-leading Freedom Autosport Mazda squad.

Johnson muscled his No. 15 Ford Shelby GT350R-C around the No. 33 CJ Wilson Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport of Marc Miller for the lead with 13 minutes remaining, with the Porsche fading after only taking two fresh tires on its final stop.

It marked Johnson and Maxwell’s sixth victory of the season.

The duo clinched the drivers’ championship by completing the 45-minute minimum drive time for points, but also took home the GS team and manufacturers’ titles for Multimatic and Ford, respectively.

The No. 09 Automatic Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4 of Charlie Putman and Charles Espenlaub completed the overall podium in third following a steady run that saw the car lead at one stage.

C360R’s Ford and the No. 35 CJ Wilson Porsche completed the top-five.

Spencer Pumpelly and Nick Galante took home class honors in ST, enough for them to win the championship in their No. 17 Porsche Cayman.

It came after engine issues for the No. 25 Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5 of Stevan McAleer, which had pitted with 18 minutes to go from second in class, a position that would have given McAleer and McCumbee the title.

Pumpelly claimed his first career IMSA championship, with the pairing having taken their third class victory of the season.

The No. 93 HART Honda Civic Si of Chad Gilsinger and Ryan Eversley finished second, with the No. 19 RS1 Porsche of Greg Strelzoff and Connor Bloum completing the class podium in third.
