After a seven-week break, the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge returns to action this weekend at Mid-Ohio, with 36 entries listed for Saturday’s two-hour race.
It includes 24 GT4-spec cars set to do battle in GS, alongside an increased seven-car entry in TCR and five ST machines for the third round of the season.
ENTRY LIST: Mid-Ohio
Winward Racing/HTP Motorsport will have a reduced two-car effort this weekend, following the withdrawal of its No. 3 Mercedes-AMG GT4 for Craig Lyons and Kris Wilson, due to Lyons’ increased business commitments.
It comes on the heels of the team having confirmed its No. 57 Mercedes GT4 of Bryce Ward and Indy Dontje for the remainder of the season.
Classic BMW has also scaled back its entry, with its No. 72 BMW M4 GT4 absent, while Ray Mason replaced Jayson Clunie at the wheel of the team’s No. 26 entry alongside Toby Grahovec, who currently sits second in the title race behind RS1’s Spencer Pumpelly and Dillon Machavern.
Mark Siegel, meanwhile, is set to rejoin the No. 39 Carbahn Motorsports Audi R8 LMS GT4, which remains the lone Audi in the field, while Automatic Racing has a revised lineup for its No. 09 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in Rob Ecklin Jr. and Brandon Kidd.
Johnson Set for Return in TCR
The TCR category will see a boosted seven-car entry, thanks to the return of JDC-Miller Motorsports, which will field a brand-new Audi RS 3 LMS TCR for Michael Johnson and Stephen Simpson.
It comes following an accident at Roar for Johnson, who sustained a broken right leg.
Johnson’s accident ruled the Minnesota-based team out of the opening two rounds of the season as it regrouped and built up a new Audi TCR chassis.
The majority of the class, however, remains Audis, with only a single Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR entered, again for Luke and Tanner Rumburg.
ST, meanwhile, features a five-car field with entries from Bodymotion Racing, MINI JCW Team and BimmerWorld Racing.
Track action kicks off with a promoter test day on Thursday, with the Mid-Ohio 120 getting the green flag Saturday at 2:20 p.m. EDT.
