Two-time TCR Europe touring car champion Franco Girolami will join Tyler Gonzalez in the first confirmed lineup for Victor Gonzalez Racing’s CUPRA Leon VZ TCR effort in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge next year.
The 33-year-old Argentinean, also a former TC2000 champion, will make his IMSA debut in the No. 99 TCR entry, which won the final two Pilot Challenge races of the season with Gonzalez and Eric Powell at the wheel.
Girolami won his 2024 TCR Europe title at the wheel of a CUPRA for Spanish squad Monlau Motorsport.
Gonzalez, meanwhile, will be embarking on his third full season and fourth year with the Puerto Rican team, having finished fifth in the drivers’ championship alongside Powell.
VGRT made the mid-season switch from Hyundai Elantra N TCR machinery to the Volkswagen-owned brand, and have signaled plans to run two of the CUPRA’s full-time in IMSA TCR competition next year.
The lineup for the team’s second Cupra entry is expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks ahead of January’s four-hour season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
