Jonathan Bomarito will spearhead PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports’ lineup in its No. 11 Oreca 07 Gibson alongside Steven Thomas, it has been confirmed.

The ex-Mazda factory driver has landed a full-season seat in the Bobby Oergel-led squad’s second LMP2 entry, which will see 15-year-old Josh Pierson contest the Michelin Endurance Cup races as the third driver.

Harry Tincknell, another former Mazda DPi star, will complete the team’s lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

“This is definitely a coming home for me since I’ve raced for both PR1 and Mathiasen Motorsports in the past,” said Bomarito.

“There are so many great people involved with this program and I am really looking forward to getting to the racetrack.

“Steven and Josh have been really fast and easy to work with, which makes for a great working environment.

“The three of us will be a strong lineup for the endurance races. With Harry joining us for Daytona, this will make us even stronger and I’m excited to be racing with him again. We have all the pieces in place to compete for wins this year.”

Bronze-rated Thomas, who made his LMP2 debut this year with WIN Autosport, moves over to the 2021 class championship-winning organization.

“Bobby O’s proven record of winning in LMP2 is unmatched,” Thomas said. “It’s been a rocket-ship ride since my first time driving a race car three years ago, and last year’s poles and podiums made me believe we could achieve even more with PR1.

“Jonathan Bomarito as my co-driver for the season brings elite speed and experience, and I am excited to see Josh Pierson’s talent prevail in the endurance races.

“Because I try to drive with all the former Mazda factory drivers, we have lightening quick Harry Tincknell for Daytona too.”

Pierson, meanwhile, is set for his professional racing debut at the age of 15.

It comes in addition to his previously announced full-season FIA World Endurance Championship program with United Autosports, also in LMP2.

“I’m very humbled and excited to be Joining PR1 Motorsports for the IMSA season,” he said. “Excited to be participating in the long races with Jonathan Bomarito, and Steven Thomas for the 24 hours of Daytona.”

Also announced on Thursday, PR1/Mathiasen’s other Oreca will be piloted by Ben Keating, Mikkel Jensen, Scott Huffaker and Nico Lapierre for Daytona, with the team’s two drivers for the sprint races yet to be announced.
