Sebastien Bourdais has departed Tower Motorsports, effective immediately, in order to focus on his FIA World Endurance Championship commitments with Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA.
Bourdais was due to again contest six of the seven IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races in the team’s No. 8 Oreca 07 Gibson with FIA Bronze-rated driver John Farano.
“Tower Motorsports confirms that Sebastien Bourdais has made the decision to step away from the team in order to focus more fully on his factory Cadillac WEC program,” a statement from the team read.
“We respect and support Sebastien’s commitment to his responsibilities with Cadillac and appreciate the professionalism, experience, and speed he brought to our organization.
“We thank Sebastien for his contributions and wish him continued success for the remainder of the WEC season and beyond.”
Bourdais, Farano, Sebastian Alvarez and Kyffin Simpson teamed for an eighth place finish in class at last weekend’s season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.
A replacement for Bourdais has yet to be announced.
