Campbell, Jaminet Promoted to Porsche Factory Drivers

Porsche has promoted Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet to full factory driver status for 2020, while retiring two longtime works drivers from its expansive roster.

The German manufacturer confirmed the new additions during Saturdays’s Porsche ‘Night of Champions’ awards ceremony, which will see 24-year-old Campbell and 25-year-old Jaminet join the works lineup, which will remain at 18 drivers.

Both drivers will again take part in full seasons of the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli while also serving as third pilots in Porsche’s factory IMSA GT Le Mans squad for the long-distance races.

Campbell and Jaminet began as Porsche Juniors before being among the first batch of Porsche Young Professionals in 2018.

Thomas Preining, who serves as a test and development driver for Porsche’s ABB FIA Formula E Championship program, will remain a Young Professional for 2020 alongside Julien Andlauer, who graduates from Junior status.

Newly crowned Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli champion Dennis Olsen, as well as Italian Matteo Cairoli, meanwhile, have been dropped from Porsche’s Young Professional squad.

Cairoli, however, will still be part of Porsche’s lineup next year in its IGTC program, although no word has been given where the Norwegian will end up, although is expected to be with a Porsche customer team.

Bergmeister, Bernhard Dropped from Factory Lineup

Porsche legends Joerg Bergmeister and Timo Bernhard, meanwhile, will no longer be part of Porsche’s factory lineup, in addition to Brendon Hartley, whose contract expires with the German manufacturer at the end of the year.

The two longest serving Porsche drivers were honored by Porsche Motorsport Vice President Fritz Enzinger during Saturday’s event (pictured above).

Bergmeister stood down from full-time driving following GTE-Am class victory in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans with Team Project 1, while two-time LMP1 World Champion Bernhard has focused largely on his Team75 Bernhard operation.

Both Bergmeister and Bernhard will remain with Porsche as brand ambassadors.
