DragonSpeed has announced a change of class for its Ferrari 296 GT3 effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, while also confirming the signing of Albert Costa to its lineup for the 2025 season.

The Elton Julian-led team revealed on Wednesday its step up to the GTD Pro category after initially applying for a GTD entry.

It comes after running in the top production-based class in October’s Motul Petit Le Mans with Toni Vilander, Thomas Neubauer and Vincent Abril following the program’s debut at the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in GTD.

DragonSpeed is poised to be the only Ferrari entrant in GTD Pro next year, with Risi Competizione not having appeared on the initial 2025 entry list and no news since from the Houston-based squad.

“After achieving nearly everything possible in global LMP2, I am proud to bring the team to the top class of American GT racing,” said Julian.

“Signing a talent like Albert to be our full-time driver signals our intentions for 2025.

“There are many more details to be revealed, but I’m very pleased with the package we are putting together and expect to be in contention from the start of the season at Daytona.”

Costa, the 2023 LMP2 class winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, moves to DragonSpeed following a season-long effort with fellow Ferrari outfit Conquest Racing, which was highlighted by GTD victory in the Motul Petit Le Mans.

Costa’s season-long co-driver has yet to be announced.
