Philipp Eng led the way in the second and final IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice session prior to qualifying for Sunday’s Motul Course de Monterey presented by Hyundai N.
Eng, in the No. 24 Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8, recorded a best time of 1:13.349 in the 90-minute session to edge out the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac V-Series.R of Sebastien Bourdais by 0.224 seconds.
Connor De Phillippi ended up third quickest in the sister BMW, followed by the No. 7 Penske Porsche of Dane Cameron, who made a late session improvement on teammate Mathieu Jaminet.
The No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac, which underwent an overnight MGU and battery change following Jack Aitken’s accident in opening practice, completed the top-six with Pipo Derani at the wheel.
The pair of Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06s were sixth and seventh, meanwhile.
GTD Pro was led by the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth, thanks to a 1:20.376 lap time that was 0.088 seconds quicker than Nicky Catsburg in the No. 4 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
The No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports McLaren 720S GT3 Evo of Marvin Kirchhofer was third quickest in class.
Danny Formal led the way in the GTD class in his No. 45 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2.
The only red flag during the session came in the final 15 minutes when the No. 43 Andretti Motorsports Porsche of Jarett Andretti spun and collected a signboard.
