Eric Filgueiras will compete Forte Racing’s lineup for this weekend’s Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, making his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship return to the GTD class in the team’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2.
Filgueiras, a multi-time champion in SRO America competition, will join full season drivers Mario Farnbacher and Misha Goikhberg in the No. 78 Lamborghini for the six-hour race.
It will mark his third Michelin Endurance Cup race of the season after starting the campaign in Lone Star Racing’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo but having gotten replaced by Wyatt Brichacek at Watkins Glen International.
“Excited to announce I will join Forte Racing for this weekend’s IMSA Battle on the Bricks,” Filgueiras wrote on social media. “Huge thanks to everyone who made this very last minute opportunity possible.
“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of their beautiful Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 alongside Mario and Misha.”
Team owner Shane Seneviratne added: “We’re thrilled to have Eric join us for Indy. He’s a proven driver with the kind of experience and pace that will strengthen our program right away.
“Indianapolis is such a special race, and with Misha, Mario, and Eric together, we have a lineup that gives us every reason to be excited about our chances this weekend.”
Filgueiras is the third different Endurance Cup driver to drive for the California-based operation this season, with NBC Sports and The CW Network NASCAR commentator Parker Kligerman having joined the team for the Rolex 24 at Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, while Scott Hargrove was in the GTD entry at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
“We’re very excited to welcome Eric for Indianapolis,” added GTD program manager Michael Harvey.
“We wanted to add strength to support Misha and Mario, and Eric brings experience, pace, and a mature approach as we focus on maximizing results.
“The whole team is performing at a high level right now, and Eric is the type of driver who can slot in seamlessly and deliver from the start.”
Farnbacher and Goikhberg currently sit 11th in the GTD class standings following a recent run of bad luck after front-running efforts impacted by penalties or incidents.
