GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing will focus on winning the four-race North American Endurance Championship in the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. At the moment, this is all the team has confirmed for its participation in the TUDOR Championship.
The Corvette Daytona Prototype team has confirmed the same driver lineup for the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona as it had for 2013: Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty again joined by Memo Gidley and Darren Law. Gidley will be in his third year with the No. 99 GAINSCO “Red Dragon” entry at Daytona, and Law is back for his second year.
“We are very excited about entering our 10th year of professional sports car racing, and we are especially happy to have continuity in our race team and the driver line up for the Rolex 24 At Daytona race,” team owner Bob Stallings said in a release. “Alex, Jon, Memo and Darren will be back in the 99 ‘Red Dragon’ Corvette Daytona Prototype for this grueling 24-hour race, and we are ever optimistic that this year could be the one.”
Indeed, GAINSCO’s luck in the Rolex 24 has been traditionally poor. The team finished seventh at this year’s race and has a best result of second at Daytona in 2008; Jimmie Johnson and Jimmy Vasser joined Gurney and Fogarty that year.
Gurney and Fogarty finished third in the 2013 Rolex Series championship, with a win at Circuit of the Americas in March.
As a DP team, Stallings’ operation will need to spend the necessary amount on the upgrades to the diffuser, rear wing and other aerodynamic adjustments. The Dallas-based team plans its first test at the Roar Before the 24 on January 3-5.
