Mercedes-AMG factory driver Maximilian Goetz and Linus Lundqvist will complete Alegra Motorsports’ lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Announced on social media on Wednesday, the pairing will join team regulars Daniel Morad and Michael de Quesada at the wheel of its GTD class Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener.
The Florida-based team, which took class honors at Daytona in 2017, initially confirmed plans for a full-season effort but has edited its post to indicate a Michelin Endurance Cup-only program.
It comes after announcing a full-time GTD effort in 2021 but missing several races due to sponsorship issues.
While Goetz is a longtime factory driver, Lundqvist will be making his second Rolex 24 start following his sports car racing debut in a Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo in 2019 courtesy of winning the Sunoco Whelen Challenge.
The drive helped propel the Swede into a career in the U.S., first in Formula Regional Americas Championship before making the move to Indy Lights last year, where he placed third in the championship.
“Super happy to be back at Daytona with Alegra Motorsports,” Lundqvist wrote on Twitter. “I’ll be driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. [What] a way to start 2022.”
