Reigning IMSA GTP champion Dane Cameron will move to the LMP2 ranks full-time next year, having signed with AO Racing to partner with PJ Hyett in the team’s Oreca 07 Gibson.
Cameron, a four-time IMSA champion who was let go from Porsche Penske Motorsport following his and Felipe Nasr’s title-winning season, will contest all seven LMP2 races aboard the purple-colored ‘Spike the Dragon’ entry.
Jonny Edgar, fresh off a championship-winning season with AO by TF in the European Le Mans Series, will join the duo for the Michelin Endurance Cup races, with Christian Rasmussen completing the lineup for next month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.
“I am excited to join AO Racing and Spike in 2025,” said Cameron. “I think that PJ and Gunnar are creating something really special with Spike and Rexy, making new sports car fans every race.
“LMP2 looks to be extremely competitive but we have a great line-up and everything we need to succeed this season. The goal is to bring PJ and Spike their first IMSA wins and championship.”
Team principal Gunnar Jeannette added: “We’ve been putting a lot of effort into elevating the level of competitiveness of our LMP2 program these last few months.
“To have the reigning IMSA and ELMS champions joining us along with another Daytona winner from last year is very special. I can’t wait to see what PJ, Dane, Jonny, and Christian can accomplish in Spike at Daytona and for the 2025 season.”
AO’s announcement follows the news that it will defend its GTD Pro class championship with Laurin Heinrich in the ‘Rexy’ liveried Porsche 911 GT3 R alongside Klaus Bachler.
