Dirk Mueller will sub for Mike Skeen in the No. 32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in this weekend’s Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca after Skeen tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.
The Multimatic-contracted driver will make his second IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship start of the year, and first for the Korthoff squad, following the German’s run in the No. 15 Proton Competition Mercedes in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Skeen and co-driver Stevan McAleer currently lead the GTD championship following podium finishes at Daytona and last month’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
With Skeen not taking part this weekend, it will result in him being effectively ruled out of winning the GTD championship, with McAleer set to score points in Sunday’s first two-hour and 40-minute race of the season.
“Stevan will be driving with Dirk Muller, and I am sure they will do a killer job for Team Korthoff,” Skeen wrote on Facebook.
“The highs and lows of motorsport life can be pretty big—going from a win on Sunday [in Trans-Am] to quarantined in a hotel room isn’t fun, but I will watch with interest and see the crew back at Mid-Ohio.”
