The attrition rate continues to hit the Prototype class, with two-time defending IMSA class champions Action Express Racing’s No. 5 Corvette DP encountering its first mechanical issue in three years.
Filipe Albuquerque was leading the 54th Rolex 24 at Daytona in the No. 5 car, but went straight to the garage with a rear axle issue.
The car lost five laps and has fallen back to fifth overall, still with a shot at a podium finish though if two other cars were to have issues.
The delay comes in the first race under the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship branding, after in the last two years as the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the No. 5 car only failed to complete one lap combined.
It’s also the second car to visit the garage for the Action Express team, following two delays for the team’s No. 31 Corvette DP.
Max Angelelli continues to lead overall ahead of Johannes van Overbeek and Marc Goossens, as now the only three cars on the lead lap.
