Paul Miller Racing’s Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow have unofficially clinched the final-ever IMSA WeatherTech Sprint Cup title one race early following Sunday’s IMSA Fastlane Sportscar Weekend at Road America.

Sellers and Snow drove their BMW M4 GT3 to a fourth place GTD class finish in the race, which was good enough to lock up the title ahead of the Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway.

The pairing, who missed the overall WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona, have enjoyed a strong showing with the new-for-2023 GT3 contender, having scored class wins at both Long Beach and Lime Rock Park.

“Today may not have been our best race, but we had one goal and that was to win the Sprint Cup title,” said Sellers.

“After missing the Rolex 24, that was the only championship we could win, and we did it with one sprint race to go.

“We can now race with our heads held higher and focus on getting another win for the BMW M4 GT3. We are very pleased with our partnership with BMW and look forward to what the future holds.”

The Heart of Racing’s Roman De Angelis provisionally sits second in the standings, although with an insurmountable 241-point deficit as long as Sellers and Snow start the race at VIR.

As confirmed by IMSA President John Doonan on Friday, the Sprint Cup will not continue into 2023, with Doonan citing lack of participation.

While full-season GTD teams, such as Paul Miller Racing were automatically entered, only a single car — the No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 — was specifically entered for the Sprint Cup this year.
