Porsche locked out the top three positions in the opening test session of the Roar Before the Rolex 24 weekend at Daytona International Speedway on Friday morning.

Felipe Nasr posted the quickest time of the one hour, 15 minute session of 1:36.327 aboard the No. 7 Penske Porsche 963, beating the 2025-spec JDC-Miller Motorsports example driven by Nico Pino by just four thousandths of a second.

Third-quickest was the second of the Porsche Penske Motorsport entries, the No. 6 car in which Laurens Vanthoor set a best time 0.108 seconds off the pace.

Best of the rest behind the three Porsches was the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R of Louis Deletraz, almost six-tenths off the pace, followed by the sister No. 10 WTR Cadillac of Filipe Albuquerque in fifth place.

The two WRT-run BMW M Hybrid V8s were next up in sixth and seventh places, with Marco Wittmann putting the No. 24 car in sixth ahead of the No. 25.

Acura Meyer Shank Racing didn’t set any timed laps with either of its ARX-06s until the closing minutes of the session owing to what a manufacturer spokesperson described as “gremlins” with only car ending up with a representative time.

A late effort from Renger van der Zande aboard the No. 93 car put that car ninth and 2.2 seconds off the pace, behind the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac and ahead of the solo Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Valkyrie in tenth.

The No. 60 MSR Acura was six seconds off the pace, behind the entire LMP2 field.

Charles Milesi set the pace in the LMP2 class aboard the No. 11 TDS Racing Oreca 07 Gibson with a best time of 1:38.395 early in the session.

Pietro Fittipaldi put the No. 73 Pratt Miller Motorsports car second in class with a best effort of 1:39.137, demoting newly-signed McLaren Hypercar driver Mikkel Jensen to third in the No. 2 United Autosports Oreca.

Setting the pace across the two GTD classes was the No. 44 Magnus Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo with Spencer Pumpelly at the wheel.

Pumpelly set the benchmark time of 1:47.304 to outpace the best of the GTD Pro classes, the No. 59 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing McLaren 720S GT3 Evo in which Dean McDonald set the quickest time of class, a 1:47.766.

Andrea Caldarelli put the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 second in GTD Pro and third overall of the GT cars, ahead of two more GTD cars, the No. 80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo and the No. 45 WTR Lamborghini.

IndyCar star Will Power was responsible for triggering the one and only red flag of the session with 13 minutes left on the clock with a spin at Turn 1 aboard the 75 Express Mercedes-AMG, although he was able to continue without incident.

Manthey’s Grello-liveried No. 911 Porsche 911 GT3 R meanwhile was limited to just five laps due to a transponder issue that took most of the session to address.

Roar Before the 24 track action continues with the second test session at 4 p.m. ET.
