Proton Competition has secured title sponsorship from Mustang Sampling for its IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP entry.
The West Virginia-based natural gas company will sponsor the re-numbered No. 5 Porsche 963 for the full season, replacing WeatherTech, which were on both Proton’s WeatherTech Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship prototype entries this year.
Mustang Sampling, which had most recently been on JDC-Miller Motorsports’ Cadillac DPi-V.R, had also enjoyed a long stint with Action Express Racing in the past.
“We’re delighted to have won over Mustang Sampling, a committed partner with huge experience in motorsports,” said team boss Christian Ried.
“Our new partner, Mustang Sampling Racing, has been successful within the IMSA SportsCar Championship winning multiple WeatherTech Championships, Michelin Endurance Cups, and the Rolex 24.
“We have ambitious goals to achieve in our first full season with the Porsche 963 within the WeatherTech Championship. We believe this will be a profitable partnership and that Mustang Sampling is an excellent fit for our team.”
So far, Gianmaria Bruni and Neel Jani have been confirmed for the entry in next month’s season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.
