Spencer Pumpelly has been drafted into Heart of Racing Team’s lineup for next weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, sharing the No. 27 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo with full season driver Roman De Angelis.
Pumpelly, a Silver-rated driver, takes the seat occupied by Zach Robichon in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup races. The Canadian pilot is unavailable for Long Beach due to his clashing FIA World Endurance Championship commitments in Imola with Proton Competition.
It’s unclear if Pumpelly, who serves as Magnus Racing’s Endurance Cup driver, will be in Heart of Racing Aston for the full WeatherTech Sprint Cup season.
Team principal Ian James previously told Sportscar365 that it had not yet determined if they would utilize the same driver for all of the Sprint Cup rounds or would have Robichon in for the non-clashing WeatherTech SportsCar Championship rounds.
There are two additional IMSA GTD/WEC clashes this season, at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in May and July’s round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Pumpelly, meanwhile, boasts experience with the new-for-2024 Vantage GT3 Evo with Magnus, having contested the opening two rounds of the WeatherTech Championship season alongside John Potter and Andy Lally.
