Sportscar365 is asking drivers from around the world what they’re doing during the COVID-19 pandemic and how they’re coping with the racing downtime.
Era Motorsport team owner/driver Kyle Tilley (Twitter/Instagram) features in this edition.
Where are you sitting out the COVID-19 crisis?
I’ve been sitting out quarantine at home in Carmel, Ind. We are lucky we live right on the Monon Trail so I have no excuse not to get out for ride on my bike! The one silver lining of the pandemic has been time to relax and get back into a regular training routine.
How have you adapted to the current situation from a financial/business perspective?
It’s been different that’s for sure. We closed both of our Era Motorsport workshops for three weeks until we understood what was going on a bit better. We have since opened up both our historic and modern workshops albeit with a lot of precautions in place.
What is your daily driver?
My daily driver is a 2019 VW GTI, not stock of course! However my pride and joy is my 1000hp Porsche 911 Turbo!
What’s your favorite holiday destination?
Tough one.. I don’t really go on holiday too often. I think I can count the number of times on just over one hand! My work and racing with the historic side of the business takes me all over the world so I don’t really see the need to holiday.
Do you have any pets?
Two cats! Piper and George
Is there a track/race still on your ‘bucket list’ that you would like to race one day?
Monaco! I am supposed to be in there right now racing the Ensign MN177 Historic F1 car, missing out on that is really disappointing, hopefully we get the invite next time the event is held.
What other form of motorsports would you like to try your hand in?
Rallying!! I have a full Group 4 spec Mk2 Ford Escort rally car from the 70’s which I am itching to get out on a Forrest stage!
What’s the one thing you are most looking forward to the first day you return to a race track?
Getting back behind the wheel of our No. 18 Oreca LMP2 car, shortly followed by having a beer with our fantastic Era Motorsport crew guys.
