Sean Creech Motorsport has confirmed its absence from the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as it ‘actively discusses options’ for Motul Petit Le Mans amidst Lance Willsey’s decision to step away from racing.
The No. 33 Ligier JS P217 Gibson did not feature on the 56-car entry list released for the penultimate IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship released on Wednesday, meaning the team will miss a race for the first time this season.
In a separate statement released on Thursday, the Sean Creech-led stable outlined that the Indianapolis absence is connected to Willsey’s decision to step away from racing.
This means that the team will need to find a new, Bronze-rated driver for the season finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Oct. 12.
“First and foremost, we wish Lance the best,” said team principal Creech.
“Going forward, I am absolutely committed to keeping this team going, preferably in the LMP2 category. We’re in discussions with several drivers and sponsors and are open to additional options.”
Willsey’s association with Sean Creech dates back to 2019 and included a multi-year spell in LMP3 before stepping up to LMP2 for the first time this season.
The 63-year-old already missed the most recent round at Road America, where he was replaced by Tonis Kasemets. The best finish for the Ligier program this season came at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Cadillac, where they finished fourth in class.
