Ricky Taylor led an Acura Team Penske front row sweep for tomorrow’s Monterey Sports Car Championship powered by McLaren.
Taylor claimed a new IMSA track qualifying record around WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, setting a 1:15.035 lap time in his No. 6 Acura ARX-05 he will share with Helio Castroneves in Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round.
The second-generation driver edged out teammate championship leader Juan Pablo Montoya by 0.308 seconds.
Jordan Taylor will start third in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R, followed by Tristan Nunez in the No. 77 Team Joest Mazda RT24-P and No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi, which completed the top-five.
The Road America race-winning No. 55 Mazda will start sixth in the hands of Jonathan Bomarito, followed by the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi of Filipe Albuquerque and Misha Goikhberg in the best of the JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillacs.
LMP2 pole, meanwhile, went to the No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports Oreca 07 Gibson of Kyle Masson, who outpaced the class championship leader Matt McMurry by more than a half-second.
The Monterey Sports Car Championship powered by McLaren gets underway Sunday at 12 p.m. PDT, with live coverage on NBC (3 p.m. EDT).
RESULTS: Qualifying
