Steven Thomas will make the switch from PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports to TDS Racing next year, having been confirmed as the Bronze-rated driver in the French squad’s second full-season LMP2 entry in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Thomas, who took LMP2 Pro-Am class honors in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans with Algarve Pro Racing, will again drive an Oreca 07 Gibson but under the leadership of the Xavier Combet-led TDS outfit for the North American series.

Sportscar365 understands that Scott Huffaker and Mikkel Jensen, who had paired with Ben Keating for the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup LMP2 title this year, are set to be Thomas’ co-drivers.

“I got into a race car for the first time in January 2019, and it’s been a fast climb,” said Thomas.

“Being on the pole a few times and having the fastest average lap among the Bronze-ranked drivers in most races has been very satisfying.

“TDS Racing is recognized as one of the best LMP2 teams in the world, and I look forward to the challenge with them in 2023.”

Thomas’ entry joins the previously-confirmed car from fellow Bronze driver Francois Heriau.

TDS is planning to relocate its expanding U.S. headquarters to the east coast, having previously utilized Team Premat’s Las Vegas facility.

“We are pleased to start this new chapter with Steven, who is very much welcome at TDS Racing,” said Combet.

“I am very keen to seeing him in our car and I’m confident that with Steven and Francois we will have two competitive cars for 2023.”

The status of TDS’ relationship with Racing Team Nederland, which missed last month’s Motul Petit Le Mans due to team owner Frits van Eerd’s ongoing investigation in a money laundering case, is unclear at this point.
