Nick Yelloly broke a four-race pole streak from Dries Vanthoor to take Acura Meyer Shank Racing to the top in qualifying for Saturday’s Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic.
Yelloly, in the No. 93 Acura ARX-06, drove to a chart-topping 1:05.762 to edge out the sister No. 60 entry of Tom Blomqvist for a front row lockout by the manufacturer.
Late-session improvements from Sheldon van der Linde and Vanthoor, saw the pair of Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8s qualify third and fourth, respectively.
Matt Campbell completed the top-five in the No. 6 Penske Porsche 963, followed by the GTP championship-leading No. 7 Porsche of Nick Tandy.
The No. 31 Action Express Racing entry of Jack Aitken was the best of the Cadillac V-Series.Rs in seventh, followed by the pair of Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillacs.
Seb Priaulx led a front-row lockout for Ford Multimatic Motorsports in GTD Pro, marking the team’s second class pole of the season with the Ford Mustang GT3.
Priaulx’s 1:10.992 in the No. 64 entry was 0.329 seconds quicker than teammate Chris Mies in the No. 65 Mustang GT3 in a session that was marred by an accident by Rasmus Lindh with less than six minutes to go.
Lindh’s No. 81 DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3 made contact with the Turn 3 wall and spun into the Turn 4 concrete barriers with less than six minutes left on the clock.
IMSA extended the session by less than 40 seconds in order to guarantee the minimum green flag time, but it did not allow time for any additional lap time improvements.
The No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth will start third in class, ahead of the pair of Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 Evos, which completed the top-five.
Tommy Milner was the best of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs in sixth, while the championship-leading No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R will line up eighth in class.
