Andy Lee and Kiko Porto have claimed pole positions for the opening two rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season at Sebring International Raceway.
Lee took his Pro-Am class No. 14 Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 to the top of the time sheets in the first of two 15-minute qualifying sessions with a best lap of 2:01.223.
His time edged out Pro class pole-sitter and back-to-back series champion, Danny Formal, by 0.336 seconds, with ANSA Motorsports’ Nico Jamin third quickest in Q1.
Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti took both the Am and LB Cup class poles in Q1 with Anthony McIntosh’s No. 69 Lamborghini fastest in Am, and the solo-driven No. 32 entry of Naveen Rao set to start this afternoon’s 50-minute race from the LB Cup pole.
Q1 saw three separate incidents for the No. 28 Alliance Racing Lamborghini of Al Morey, who spun at Turns 10 and 7 before going off track at turn 16. However, Morey kept his Lamborghini out of the barriers and did not ultimately impact green flag running.
Q2 saw ANSA at the top of the timetables, with Porto’s best lap time of 2:02.663 besting WTRAndretti’s Ryan Norman by a narrow 0.148 seconds.
Jake Walker close behind in third in his No. 77 Forty7 Motorsports Lamborghini, with the top-three covered by less than two tenths of a second.
Pro-Am saw John Capestro-Dubets take the class pole, with his 2:02.840 lap time placing him fifth overall in Q2.
Flying Lizard’s Sam Shi claimed top qualifying honors in Am, with Ofir Levy (Forte Racing) pacing the LB Cup field in Q2.
Race 1 gets underway at at 5:55 p.m. EDT this evening, with Race 2 set for a 6:05 p.m. start on Friday. Both races live on Peacock and IMSA.tv.
