Riley Dickinson led the way across the opening day of practice for Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta ahead of the final two rounds of the season.
Dickinson’s 1:20.866 lap time in the afternoon practice session placed his No. 58 Kelly-Moss Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car 0.091 seconds ahead of fellow Pro class competitor Trenton Estep in the 6 MDK Motorsports machine on the overall time sheet.
Efrin Castro was the fastest Pro-Am driver on Friday, reeling off a 1:22.358 lap in his No. 65 Kelly-Moss Porsche.
Meanwhile, it was the No. 57 Wright Motorsports Porsche of John Goetz who topped the timing sheets in the Am class.
Both drivers set their fastest laps in the second practice session of the day.
Overall, track times dropped in the afternoon practice session, as nearly every driver in the 31-car field improved their times from their morning running.
Running in the opening practice session was interrupted by a red flag near the end of the session when the No. 29 Topp Racing Porsche of Bill Smith and the No. 13 Wright Motorsports entry of Varun Choksey both went off track at Turn 1.
However, the track remained green for the entirety for the second, 30-minute practice session of the day.
The final Carrera Cup qualifying session of the season gets underway Thursday at 10 a.m. ET ahead of Race 1 at 5 p.m., with live coverage on Peacock, IMSA.tv and PorscheCarreraCup.us.
