Trenton Estep claimed his third Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands victory following a rain-impacted second race of the weekend at Road America.
The MDK Motorsports driver finished 3.657 seconds ahead of the pole-sitting No. 9 JDX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Parker Thompson in the 40-minute contest that saw the championship leader Kay van Berlo retire.
Estep got around Thompson for the lead on Lap 4 in a brave move around the Canadian in Turn 3 while in challenging conditions.
He extended the advantage prior to the first of two full course cautions when the Pro-Am class No. 99 Kelly-Moss Porsche of Alan Metni found himself in the gravel.
A second yellow came out just six minutes after the restart when van Berlo also beached after Leh Keen tagged Riley Dickinson, who then in turn got into the Dutchman entering Turn 5.
Keen was given a drive-through penalty for incident responsibility.
The No. 77 Topp Racing Porsche of Travis Wiley completed the podium after a last-lap battle with teammate TJ Fischer.
Sean Varing ended up as the highest-placed Kelly-Moss entry in fifth after trouble for both van Berlo and Dickinson, who started outside of the top ten but were charging through the field prior to the incident.
With van Berlo retiring, Thompson unofficially closes to within 16 points of van Berlo heading into the final two weekends of the season.
Pro-Am class honors went to the No. 84 Mark Motors Porsche of Marco Cirone after Metni’s spin, while Mark Kvamme also made it a sweep of the weekend in the Am class in his MDK Porsche.
