A late flyer in second practice put Tyler Maxson atop the combined timesheets following the first two practice sessions of the season for Porsche Carrera Cup North America at Sebring International Raceway.
Maxson took his No. 77 Topp Racing Porsche 911 Cup to a 2:00.775 in the closing minutes of Wednesday afternoon’s Practice 2 to outpace the No. 24 Kellymoss Porsche of Aaron Jeansonne by 0.248 seconds.
Carrera Cup competitors are giving the new Type-992.2 Porsche 911 Cup, equipped with Pirelli tires for the first time, its North American debut this weekend.
Jared Thomas, who was quickest in the opening session, was third in the No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering entry, thanks to his time from the morning.
Kiwi Callum Hedge, in his series debut, was fourth quickest in his No. 9 JDX Racing Porsche, with Topp’s Cole Kleck, a graduate of Porsche Sprint Challenge North America, completing the overall top-five, all in the Pro class.
The Pro-Am class was led by ACI Motorsports’ Patrick Mulcahy, who led the way in both sessions, while a 2:02.715 lap in Practice 2 put defending Masters class champion Scott Blind on top for Rukus Racing.
Both sessions ran without any major incidents or red flags.
Brady Behrman and Alex Pratt had separate off-course excursions in Practice 1, while the No. 60 JDX Porsche of Kevin Stadtlander stopped on track in Turn 7 but also continued.
The second session saw only a single incident, for Alain Scalzo, who went off course in Turn 13 and continued.
Qualifying is next up and is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. EST on Thursday, followed by Race 1 at 3 p.m., which will be streamed live on Peacock, IMSA’s YouTube channel and PorscheCarreraCup.us featuring commentary from Ryan Myrehn and Peter Mackay.
