Kay van Berlo led the way in the opening day of track action at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands competitors as part of the Porsche Sportscar Together Fest.
The Dutchman reeled off a best lap of 1:36.481 in Friday’s opening practice to outpace Kelly-Moss Road & Race teammate and title rival Seb Priaulx by 0.028 seconds.
Parker Thompson, who led the way in Practice 2, ended the day third quickest overall in his JDX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
The Canadian driver edged out the No. 58 Topp Racing Porsche of TJ Fischer by 0.027 seconds in Practice 2, which saw considerably slower times than the first 50-minute session.
The No. 53 Team Hardpoint EBM Porsche of Riley Dickinson was fourth quickest overall on the day with Fischer completing the top-five with his time set in Practice 2.
Pro-Am was led by the No. 17 ACI Motorsports Porsche of Curt Swearingin, who laid down a 1:39.697 lap time in the first session.
It was nearly two-tenths quicker than Hardpoint EBM’s Efrin Castro, who led the way in Practice 2.
Joseph Lombardo, meanwhile, was quickest of the Pro-Am 991 class competitors for previous-generation Type 991.2 Porsche machinery.
Qualifying is on tap for Saturday at 11:05 a.m. ET followed by Race 1 later that afternoon.
