ORECA has revealed the name of its 2017 LMP2 car as the Oreca 07, with the French constructor confirming plans to offer an upgrade kit to existing customers of its Oreca 05.

“For us, the 2017 version is a new model, where the new name will be the Oreca 07,” company president Hugues de Chaunac told Endurance-Info.

De Chaunac said progress continues to be made in the design of the car, despite next year’s regulations still yet to be finalized by the FIA and ACO.

He expects the car to begin on-track testing in July, which is along the same timeframe of the Ligier JS P217 and Riley Mk. XXX cars.

There’s been no update on the progress of the Dallara chassis, the fourth of the approved LMP2 constructors for 2017.

De Chaunac expects between eight to ten Oreca 05 cars in action this year, between teams in the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series.

It will include DragonSpeed, Eurasia Motorsport and Jota Sport, which have all purchased new chassis which will be eligible to be upgraded to 2017-spec.

“Today, ORECA is the only manufacturer to offer a LMP2 car eligible in the future,” de Chaunac said.

“The majority of the teams who trust in us will still be on track in 2017 with the new car.”

Details of the upgrade kit, including the price, has yet to be revealed.
