SRO Motorsports Group will take over the operation of Ginetta’s suite of UK one-make championships with immediate effect, enabling the manufacturer to focus on boosting car production.
The Ginetta Junior, Ginetta GT and GT Academy categories have all run on the support bill of SRO-organized British GT since 2023 and now the partnership between the two companies has been taken to the next level.
Ginetta CEO Mike Simpson told Sportscar365 that the tie-up “gives the Ginetta products more credibility” and enables Ginetta to capitalize upon SRO’s desire to help more people take their first steps in competing.
“We’re in the business of getting people started in motorsport,” explained Simpson.
“We do a massive amount outside of racing, like concourse events and car experience days and we work with karting organizations and we’re bringing people into car racing. That’s what Stephane [Ratel] was interested in.
“He doesn’t [currently] capture anybody until they get to GT4 level.
“But SRO are really trying to help bring new drivers through and there’s a lot of focus on up-and-coming drivers. SRO are now part of that journey with their own GT academy in place.”
Simpson added there could potentially be more SRO-run Ginetta championships established around the world in the future, including taking the popular Ginetta Junior concept into more markets.
Stephane Ratel described the Ginetta deal as a “new chapter” in the relationship between two companies that have operated to “each other’s mutual benefit for 20 years.”
“GT4 might not exist without Ginetta’s early and steadfast belief in a once unfashionable concept that transformed GT racing’s global environment, while its national championships provide the essential lower rungs of a ladder climbed by countless amateur and aspiring professional drivers,” he added.
“Overseeing more of this pathway from inside SRO will further benefit those yet to embark on the same journey towards GT racing’s summit, and secure the futures of essential British GT support series.”
