A provisional 2024/25 season entry list has been revealed by the Asian Le Mans Series featuring a capacity field of 44 cars.
That marks an increase of five cars over the full-time grid for the 2023/24 season, although the entry peaked at 42 cars for the season finale at Abu Dhabi.
A total of 11 cars, all Oreca 07-Gibsons, will be battling it out for overall honors in LMP2, headlined by two-car efforts from class stalwarts Proton Competition, defending champions Algarve Pro Racing and AF Corse.
They are joined by single-car entries from DKR Engineering, Nielsen Racing, Inter Europol Competition and two newcomers to the division: RD Limited and Pure Rxcing.
RD Limited is the outfit owned by 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Romain Dumas, which up to now has been mostly involved in off-road competition, including the Dakar Rally.
Pure Rxcing meanwhile steps up from winning the GT title, and will tackle the LMP2 division with support from TF Sport, which no longer has an entry under its own banner.
The 99 Racing team that featured ex-Formula 1 racer Nikita Mazepin among its drivers last season is notably absent from the provisional entry, along with fellow 2023/24 full-season entries Duqueine Team and ARC Bratislava.
In LMP3, the all-Ligier JS P320-Nissan field is comprised of Graff Racing, RLR M Sport, Bretton Racing, Ultimate, Inter Europol Competition and High Class Racing.
Of the six, only High Class and Bretton were part of the series last year, with the title-winning Cool Racing squad having dropped off the grid along with CF Sport, GG Classic Cars and Viper Niza Racing.
The GT class is the category has swollen to a huge 27 cars, with Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini all featuring.
Mercedes-AMG is the best represented with eight cars, including three newcomers in the form of Climax Racing and Winward Racing, both of which are entering two cars, and 2 Seas Motorsport, which has a single car.
Among the other new teams in the class include Car Collection (Porsche 911 GT3 R), British outfit Blackthorn (Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo), New Zealand squad Prime Speed Sport (Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2), San Marino-based Tsunami RT (Porsche) and Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS regulars Origine (Porsche) and Absolute Racing (Ferrari 296 GT3).
Frederic Lequien, the CEO of the Le Mans Endurance Management organization that runs the championship, commented: “We are extremely pleased to announce a maximum sized grid for the Asian Le Mans Series this year.
“The series continues to provide a very attractive programme to both existing and new teams, including the welcome arrival of two Chinese teams Climax Racing and Origine.
“This season the Asian Le Mans Series has expanded to six four-hour races, and we will continue to work with everyone involved to enable the series to continue to grow and evolve.”
The Asian Le Mans Series season begins with a double-header at Sepang on December 6-8, with the calendar made up by visits to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in February.
