FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 points leader Gustavo Menezes has joined the newly rebranded Jackie Chan DC Racing effort for the 2016/2017 Asian Le Mans Series season, which kicks off with this weekend’s Four Hours of Zhuhai.
The 22-year-old Californian has been named a full-season driver alongside Ho-Pin Tung in the team’s Oreca 03R Nissan, with young Frenchman Thomas Laurent joining the duo beginning with the second round of the season at Fuji Speedway in December.
Menezes and Tung, as well as team co-owner David Cheng, are teammates in the WEC with the Signatech Alpine squad, which runs DC Racing’s Alpine 460 Nissan prototype in the globe-trotting championship.
“Throughout 2016, David, Ho-Pin, and I have worked closely together,” Menezes said.
“It’s been an extremely successful rookie season for me with the win at the 24 hours of Le Mans, as well as a strong lead in the FIA WEC championship, and the special opportunity to take part in the LMP1 rookie test for Porsche.
“I want to thank David Cheng, Jackie Chan, and Sparkle Roll group for the opportunity and I am looking forward to getting on track and pursuing a strong winter in the Asian Le Mans Series.”
Cheng will spearhead the driver lineup in the team’s Ligier JS P3, alongside James Winslow and Jun Jin Pu, with both cars being operated by Mark Goddard’s Eurasia Motorsport squad.
DC Racing claimed the 2015/2016 Asian LMS LMP3 title with Cheng and Tung, with Laurent having scored rookie-of-the-year honors.
