Gustavo Menezes will make his return to prototype competition for the first time since 2023, joining High Class Racing’s LMP2 effort in the Asian Le Mans Series.
The American racer, who has effectively been on the sidelines ever since he left Peugeot’s FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar squad two years ago, will share the Danish squad’s No. 49 Oreca 07 Gibson with Jens Reno Moller and Theodor Jensen.
Prior to his Peugeot stint, the 31-year-old also drove for Glickenhaus and formed part of Rebellion Racing’s privateer LMP1 effort.
He initially appeared set for a return to action as part of Iron Lynx’s LMGT3 effort in the European Le Mans Series this year, potentially alongside YouTuber-turned-racer Edmond Barseghian, before being replaced by Mercedes-AMG factory driver Fabian Schiller.
“I’m excited to join High Class Racing for the Asian Le Mans Series,” Menezes said.
“It’s a championship that’s growing in stature, and I believe we have the right package to fight at the front. Working alongside Jens and Theodor will be a great mix of experience and fresh energy.”
The Californian previously gained extensive experience competing in LMP2 before graduating to top-class machinery, most notably enjoying a highly successful WEC season in 2016 in which he took both a 24 Hours of Le Mans class win as well as the world title.
His newly named co-driver Jensen, meanwhile, will make his LMP2 debut off the back of a dominant ELMS LMP3 campaign with CLX Motorsport, winning every single race he finished and clinching the title with a round to spare.
The 19-year-old is also the reigning LMP3 champion in the Asian series.
“This is a huge opportunity for me to return to the series after last year’s success,” said Jensen.
“Racing in LMP2 with drivers like Gustavo and Jens is a dream come true.
“I’ve learned a lot in LMP3, and I’m ready to take the next step and prove myself at this level, which also serves as a great preparation for the 2026 European Le Mans Series.”
Anders Fjordbach, High Class Racing team owner, added: “We’re thrilled to be back in the Asian Le Mans Series with such a strong and diverse driver lineup.
“Gustavo’s experience, Jens’ consistency, and Theodor’s potential create a dynamic team that we believe can challenge for podiums and represent Danish motorsport at the highest level.”
