Mercedes-AMG has announced a restructuring of its motorsport division, which includes the founding of a new subsidiary that will oversee the development of its new GT3 car.

Announced Thursday, the newly created Affalterbach Racing GmbH company is set to work closely alongside Mercedes-AMG Motorsport staff and is to be based out of the same Affalterbach town as the rest of AMG.

The new subsidiary will make use of “extensive technical expertise” to develop the successor to the current Mercedes-AMG GT3, which debuted in 2016 and received an Evo update in 2020.

Mercedes-AMG head of customer racing Stefan Wendl previously told Sportscar365 that plans to debut the new car in 2025 have been ruled out.

The brand has confirmed that the next car will be based on a derivative of its two-door Mercedes-AMG GT road car range, the most recent generation of which was introduced last year.

“I’m very pleased to be reaffirming our long-term and sustainable commitment to customer racing with the establishment of Affalterbach Racing GmbH,” said Christoph Sagemueller, Head of Mercedes‑AMG Motorsport.

“With it, we seek to further expand our extremely successful global GT customer sport programme.

“As a first step, the new GmbH is focusing on the development of the new GT3 racing car so that we can continue to offer our international customers a safe, reliable vehicle that is capable of winning.”

In addition to the founding of its new subsidiary, Mercedes-AMG also announced that it is looking to further strengthen ties with long-time partner HWA, with talks ongoing to take over the customer racing division.

“The planned integration is intended to further expand the high standard of Mercedes‑AMG Customer Racing in the future,” the statement issued by the German marque read.

“In addition to the bundling of development expertise, this also includes international customer service at the racetracks and spare parts support in Europe, the U.S., China and Australia.”
